Safran presents SOPHY, the connected trolley at WTCE
Safran introduces SOPHY, a breakthrough solution to measure the quality of catering operations.
SOPHY (ancient Greek for knowledge) is a universal trolley add-on that makes it possible for airlines to measure and further enhance their catering operations throughout their entire catering process chain.
With SOPHY airlines can get access to information helping them to take the right business decisions to further improve efficiency, reduce costs while enhancing their inflight product offering. Operational and business information will become available on the key milestones in their catering operations including handover, cleaning, food quality, stock and maintenance.
The solution is easy to integrate in existing and new trolleys fleets, resulting in low implementation efforts. SOPHY is designed to resist demanding conditions that are inherent to daily catering operations. All tags are watertight and temperature resistant, ensuring perfect operation in the aviation industry. SOPHY complies with worldwide regulations and certification standards.
Developed in partnership with Undagrid
The mature and tested technology is developed together with Undagrid, a specialist in Internet of Things Solutions for the aviation industry. The company provides already autonomous dynamic asset management at more than 20 airports worldwide.
Norman Jordan, CEO of Safran Cabin says: “Thanks to the partnership with Undagrid, we will be able to provide our customers with a product that will bring valuable insights on their catering processes; this product will allow them to further improve their daily operations.”

Undagrid is a collection of many years experience creating cutting edge technology.
But how did Undagrid start? Undagrid’s story began with the founders meeting at a leading telematics company. Here, three of us pioneered the first-ever European cloud platform for connected cars, later followed by teaming up with the initiator of the global IoT business unit at the world’s largest telecom company. This was the beginning of Undagrid.
Over the years, new, talented team members joined Undagrid. Talent that had previously co-developed the first Bluetooth software; created ad-hoc networks for moveable assets or studied navigation options for Mars Robots. As a team, we learned about the integrity of process and logistics, and we brought this value to customers like Lufthansa and Vodafone.
Undagrid is now in full business within a select range of target industries and has received multiple international awards for turning groundbreaking ideas into real business. And we intend to continue to break ground. Not only for our customers, but also for ourselves, and society at large.
